Quinceañera Photography + Videography in Arizona | The Moments You’ll Want Documented Long After

Quinceañera photography should preserve so much more than the big, obvious moments. Yes, we’ll get the dress, the ceremony, the dances, and the family photos. I also want the little pieces of who your daughter is at 15 that nobody thinks to put on a shot list.
Moms, I know I’m probably talking to you right now. Maybe you had your own quinceañera, and you’ve been waiting to give your daughter that experience. Maybe you never got one, and being able to give her what you wished you’d had makes this day feel even bigger.
Quinceañeras are especially personal to me because I’m Mexican-American. I understand the traditions, the family connection, and why the things happening around the celebration can end up meaning just as much as the ones everybody planned for. That's something I really care about when it comes to my quinceañera photography and videography.
When I photograph a quinceañera, I’m thinking about what looks beautiful today and what she’ll be SO grateful you saved when she’s 25. So before the dress goes on and everything starts flying by, here’s what I want you to know about preserving it.
Why I Care So Much About Photographing and Filming Quinceañeras
Okay, I should probably introduce myself before I get too far into my feelings about quinceañeras. Hi, I'm Gisselle! I'm an Arizona photographer and videographer, and I never had a quinceañera of my own, even though I REALLY wanted one.
I’m the youngest of four, and my siblings are all much older than me, so I remember thinking my quince would finally be this one day when everybody came together to celebrate me. When I turned 15, my family wasn’t in the financial place to make it happen, and my mom’s health had also taken a hit that year. Life was just life-ing, and a quince wasn’t in the cards.
Years later, my mom even asked me if photographing quinceañeras would be hard because she knew how much I had wanted one. I told her that I knew I was going to love it because I’d get to experience these days through my own creative eye.
Quinceañeras make me so proud of my culture and so proud to be Mexican. There’s so much beauty in our traditions and in how much of our culture revolves around family, music, and food. Every quince reminds me of my Mexican roots, which are already such a big part of who I am.
I think that’s part of why I feel so connected to the families I work with. I don't feel like I'm just someone they hired to photograph or film the day. I understand why these traditions matter, why certain family interactions mean so much, and why the little things happening around the big moments deserve to be documented too.
There’s so much happiness for me in watching a girl get dressed up, feel beautiful, and have her entire family there celebrating her. She gets to be the princess, and I adore being able to film and photograph that for her. It truly makes my inner 15-year-old so giddy.

Quinceañera Photography Should Preserve Who She Is at 15
When I filmed and photographed Emilie’s quinceañera, I walked into her bedroom and immediately knew I wanted to film it before everything started moving. She had this pushpin board covered with pieces of her life: soccer, photos of her grandparents, her friends, even her dog’s paw prints. It felt like this tiny time capsule of exactly who she was at 15.
THAT is the kind of stuff I document.
Of course, her quinceañera photos should show how incredible she looked. I also want them to remind her what her life felt like during this exact season. What was she obsessed with? What was hanging on her walls? Who made her laugh? What parts of her personality were already very, very her?
That’s also why I bring pieces of her real life into portraits. If she plays a sport, loves a certain hobby, or has something that is completely tied to who she is right now, tell me about it. I’ve photographed a quince session where we incorporated soccer jerseys and cleats because that was part of her story too. You can watch some of the behind-the-scenes from that shoot here, or see more of the final quinceañera photos here.
Years from now, her quinceañera photos will feel like opening a time capsule from 15, not just looking back at what she wore.
Emilie’s Quinceañera at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church + Pera Club
Emilie’s godmother found me on Instagram, and I could tell from our very first conversation how much she adored this girl. She talked about Emilie like she was her little princess, and wanted something really special for her to look back on.
She knew she wanted video coverage of the morning, church, and reception, but she wasn't sure how many hours she needed or what kind of video she wanted. That's completely okay! I asked her questions about what she wanted captured and explained the difference between documentary-style coverage and a highlight film. Once we talked through her options and how much time we'd need to capture everything, we decided a highlight film made the most sense.
That's something I love helping families figure out. You don't need to know exactly what kind of video you want or how many hours to book when you first reach out. Tell me what you have planned and what you want to remember, and we'll figure it out together.
One of my favorite parts of the day was pulling Emilie’s parents aside for little interviews after the ceremony. Her mom got emotional almost immediately, and her dad’s answers were SO sweet. I mean, imagine getting to hear your parents talk about how much you mean to them years later!
I also thought it was so cute that they included a tribute to Emilie’s dog, who had passed away, in the dessert decorations. Of course I needed that in the film!
Now, here’s something very me. I was hired specifically for video, but I ended up taking photos too because, well, WHY NOT?! I have a habit of capturing more than I think I’ll need, and if I see something worth capturing, I’m going to grab it.
Okay, enough of me talking. Here's Emilie's quinceañera!
Video Preserves More Than Just the Moment
Okay, now that you've seen Emilie's film, can we talk about how amazing video is for a second?!
Imagine hearing your daughter's laugh exactly as it sounded at 15, watching her dance with her friends, or listening to Dad's voice crack when he talks about how proud he is. I mean, how are you supposed to watch that years later and keep it together?!
One of the moments that really stayed with me was Emilie's older brother's speech. In traditional Mexican families, we're not always the most lovey-dovey or open about our feelings. I can relate because I have two much older brothers, and I'm the baby of the family. We barely even hug sometimes; that's just how we were raised! But there's so much love and protectiveness behind that older brother relationship. So when Emilie's brother started getting emotional while talking about her, I immediately knew I had gold. I was so happy to capture his actual words on video. Emilie gets to keep that moment forever, and I'm pretty sure she'll be making fun of her brother for getting emotional for the rest of their lives.
My journalism background definitely comes out when I'm filming because I love capturing people's voices and hearing what they have to say about the people they love. My biggest goal is to make someone feel something. So when Emilie's godmother told me the video had made everyone cry, I knew I'd done my job.
What made me even happier was that they came back wanting more! After I delivered the highlight film, Emilie's godmother reached out because Emilie wanted to watch her entire court waltz and surprise dance, not just the clips from the film. Luckily, I'm an overshooter. I had recorded both dances in full, so I was able to edit them into separate videos as an additional service. I love knowing those moments meant enough to Emilie that she wanted to keep every second of them.
Moments I’d Make Sure We Document
Once everything gets going, my photographer and videographer brain is ON. I know the traditions everyone expects me to capture, but I’m also watching what’s happening around them: who’s fixing the dress, who’s already crying, who’s making her laugh, and what she’s doing when she thinks nobody is paying attention. A quinceañera moves FAST, and you’re going to miss little things because you’re busy living it. My job is to make sure those pieces still make it back to you.
Getting Ready + Details
Getting ready is one of my favorite parts of a quinceañera because there's so much excitement around seeing her all dressed up for the first time. Mom, I know you've probably been picturing this moment for MONTHS, and now it's finally happening!
You’ll be right there helping her into her dress, fixing the details, and soaking up the fact that your baby girl is turning 15. You dressed her up as a baby and now you're dressing her for her quince. I can give you both direction when we need it, but mostly, I want you to enjoy being together.
I’m paying attention to how she reacts when she sees herself all dressed up, how you look at her, and those sweet interactions happening while everyone gets ready. Those are the memories I’ll give you to have from the morning, especially because I know how chaotic and rushed getting everybody ready can be!
The Ceremony + Traditions
Quinceañera ceremonies are traditionally Catholic, and Catholic churches can be very specific about what photographers and videographers are allowed to do. Some have strict rules about where we can stand, whether we can move around, and if we're allowed to use flash or additional lighting. That's why I always want to know the church's restrictions ahead of time so I can prepare.
At Emilie's quinceañera, I was only allowed to stand in one specific spot by the altar, and I couldn't use flash or any extra lighting. Thankfully, I had my zoom lens with me, so I could still capture the important moments without needing to move around.
There are also specific traditions I know to watch for, like the offering to the Virgin Mary when the quinceañera presents her bouquet, or the blessing of religious gifts from her godparents. These might include a Bible, rosary, cross, or even a special piece of jewelry. I'm also watching for the hostia, which is what we call communion in Mexican culture, when the quinceañera receives communion alongside her parents, godparents, and other participating family members.
This is why having someone who understands quinceañeras matters so much. I want you to enjoy watching your daughter experience these traditions instead of wondering whether I'm capturing everything.
The Reception
By the time we get to the reception, there’s a lot packed into this part of the day. I’m keeping track of what’s coming next while also watching for all those reactions and little pieces of her personality happening around it.
One of my favorite things about Emilie’s reception was seeing more of her personality come out. She had been pretty quiet and serious earlier, then once she was around her friends, she was smiling, joking, being playful, and getting a little sassy. The reception also came with a little surprise for me because the venue was DARK. I'm talking Edison-style string lights and not much else! Thankfully, I had brought additional lighting and camera equipment that could handle the low light, so I was able to adapt and keep filming everything as planned.
That’s what your reception coverage will hold onto: the traditions everyone planned for, plus all the reactions and pieces of her personality happening around them.
The Things You Didn’t See
Moms, I hope you’re so busy enjoying your daughter's quinceañera that you miss half the things I’m photographing. Seriously! I want you dancing with her, catching up with friends, and soaking up every second of watching your girl be celebrated.
While you’re doing all of that, I’m paying attention to the things happening around you. Dad getting emotional during a speech, Abuelita watching her from across the room, or a sweet interaction your daughter has with her friends.
I love the idea of you two sitting down to look at these photos and going, “Wait, when did that happen?”
If you’re reading this thinking, “Okay, yes, I need someone who already knows what to watch for so I don’t have to,” you can see what my Arizona quinceañera photo + video coverage looks like here.
What Quinceañera Photography Should Look Like Before the Day
Mom, I know you're already coordinating approximately a million things for this quinceañera, but figuring out photography shouldn't be another thing you have to stress over.
You can come to me knowing you want the morning, ceremony, and reception documented, even if you have no idea how many hours that means. We'll figure it out together! Same goes for video. If you're trying to decide whether you want photos, a film, or both, we'll talk through what you'd love to have from the day.
I love photos, obviously, but there's something so special about being able to watch everything back and actually hear the people you love. The speeches, the music, your daughter's laugh, all of it! That's why I love having the option to document a quinceañera through both photography and videography.
Once we're booked, I want to hear all about what you've planned! We'll go over your timeline, locations, family traditions, and any moments you're especially excited about. I'll also help you figure out what needs to be ready beforehand so we're not scrambling to get photos when the day comes.
I'm also thinking about things you might not have considered, like photography restrictions at the church or whether your reception venue has enough lighting. I've photographed and filmed enough events to know that things don't always go exactly as planned, and I want to be prepared for whatever the day throws at us.
Frequently Asked Questions About Quinceañera Photography
Do quinceañera photographers do family photos?
YES! Family photos are such an important part of quinceañera photography. I always recommend setting aside some time for portraits with your parents, grandparents, siblings, and the people who mean the most to you. We'll figure out which combinations you want beforehand so everyone knows when it's their turn.
What should I expect from a quinceañera photographer on the day of?
You should feel like you're in good hands! I'll come prepared with the plan we've talked through, help guide you through portraits, and keep an eye on everything happening throughout the celebration so the important stuff doesn't get missed.
Do quinceañera photographers pose everyone?
Absolutely! I'll help with posing during your daughter's portraits, group photos, and pictures with her court. I'll tell you where to stand and what to do with your hands because I know being in front of a camera can feel awkward sometimes. During the celebration, I'll also capture everyone interacting naturally.
How much does quinceañera photography cost?
Quinceañera photography pricing depends on how much coverage you're looking for and what's included in your package. My photography coverage starts at $3,200 for four hours, and videography starts at $4,450 for five hours. Every celebration is different, so we'll talk through your plans and find the coverage that will work best for you.
How many hours of quinceañera photography or videography do we need?
It depends on which parts of the day you want filmed! If you're hoping to capture everything from getting ready through the reception, we'll need to account for travel time and everything happening in between. You can share your rough timeline with me, and I'll help you figure out how many hours will give us enough time without making anything feel rushed.
What questions should I ask before hiring a quinceañera photographer?
I'd ask if they've photographed full events before, how they handle difficult lighting, and whether you can see a full quinceañera gallery. You'll also want to know exactly what's included in your coverage, especially if you're interested in video! Some packages include a short highlight film, while others may offer full recordings of important traditions like the court waltz or surprise dance. Make sure you understand what you're getting before signing a contract.
Should I prepare anything before the day?
Yes! We will talk about all of this beforehand so you’re not trying to read my mind the morning of the quince.
I love telling a story through video, so I recommend having your daughter's bedroom ready before I arrive. I want to capture her dress, shoes, and accessories, but I also love incorporating the little details that show who she is at 15. Her room can tell me so much about her personality, and those are the things I want her to be able to look back on years from now! I also like to film a few intentional moments before she gets dressed so her video captures that excitement leading up to the celebration.
I'd also make sure everyone involved knows the plan! When I arrived at Emilie's house, I'd communicated everything to her godmother, but the family wasn't expecting it. Mom had to scramble, and I even had to stop Emilie before she put her dress on because I still needed a few shots. A little communication beforehand makes such a difference.

Client Love
“If you’re looking for the best, Gisselle is it! Gisselle was wonderful to work with and captured Emilie’s Quinceañera perfectly. She showed up early in the morning to get shots of Emilie getting ready. Then on to the church who hand restrictions on filming but she handled that with such professionalism. At the reception, she was nonstop getting shots of the Quinceañera Court, the cake cutting, mariachi, the speeches, and all the dances. The videos Gisselle created are breathtaking, and we have received nothing but compliments on them. The Quinceañera goes by more quickly than you realize, so having the videos to look back on is so special. I would definitely recommend Gisselle for any event!”
