This shoot at Lost Dutchman State Park in Apache Junction was genuinely special. This couple reached out while planning a trip to Arizona from Connecticut and wanted to take advantage of the stunning desert scenery to re-do their engagement photos.
She loved the ring and the surprise proposal but unfortunately wasn’t happy with how she looked in their original engagement photos. As she put it, “He wasn’t a girl’s girl… my face looked like an egg!” So this trip felt like the perfect chance to get photos that truly reflected her.
After chatting about locations, we settled on Lost Dutchman. It offered the perfect balance of desert vibes and striking landscapes, with the Superstition Mountains as a backdrop and a sunset that didn’t disappoint. I helped them plan outfits that matched their easygoing, playful energy, so the photos would feel natural and true to them.
Funny enough, right in the middle of planning, they found out she was pregnant. She asked if we could also capture a pregnancy announcement video to share with family and friends back home as well during our photoshoot. I jumped at the chance to create something meaningful for them as videography is my bread and butter.
The video captures the couple’s love and excitement against the stunning Arizona desert at Lost Dutchman State Park. It opens with them frolicking in front of the Superstition Mountains, him playfully chasing and lifting her, then transitions to a romantic moment with her standing as he kneels, creating a tender, intimate engagement scene.
The excitement builds as the pregnancy reveal unfolds. He guides her to the picnic setup complete with a basket, white roses, a beige teddy bear, and pampas grass. Finally, they reveal the baby onesie that reads “Coming Soon,” and he lovingly kisses her belly while the baby’s heartbeat plays in the background. The warm, golden sunset light, gives every frame a soft, dreamy glow that perfectly captures this milestone moment in front of the gorgeous Arizona desert.
Of course, I couldn’t resist snapping a few baby announcement photos, too. She was literally glowing, and the sunset provided the perfect light. Lost Dutchman gave us stunning views, classic desert vibes, and a variety of spots to keep the session fresh and fun.
What I loved most was the mix of realness, story, and beautiful scenery. This shoot was about capturing a meaningful chapter for this couple, all set against the iconic Arizona desert.
If you’re thinking about an engagement or maternity session in Arizona, especially at Lost Dutchman, expect wide-open spaces, unforgettable views, and a relaxed, personal experience tailored to who you are.
Lost Dutchman is hands down one of my favorite Valley locations. It’s the kind of backdrop that makes Arizona photo sessions unforgettable, whether it’s couples, weddings, or family shoots.
